CANDY BUFFET
HOW MUCH CANDY DO YOU NEED TO FILL UP CANDY JARS

Following is an easy guide to help you calculate the right amount of candy you'll need to create a stunning and deliciously sweet candy table!

If you've already purchased your candy jars, it's time to figure out the amount of candy you need. To do this, measure the capacity of each jar by filling them with water, and then emptying them into measuring cups. Record the number of cups required to fill each jar, as this represents the capacity of your containers.

Candy comes in a vast array of size and weight. For example, Salt water taffy is a large candy that weighs very little, whereas Jelly Belly Beans are quite small yet are much heavier. This means that a 1kg bag of salt water taffy will fill 12 cups, while a 1kg bag of jelly belly will only fill 4 cups. To help you, we have calculated the total number of cups per bag of the most popular candies used in sweet tables. You’ll find these results in our section; ‘Candy Buffet – How Much Candy To Buy’.

After deciding on the candy you want in each jar, and having calculated the capacity of your containers, visit our candy measurement section. There you will find the exact amount in weight, of each of the candies you will need to purchase for your jars. Record these figures to aid you during your purchase, to ensure that you have the perfect amount of candy.

However, there's more than one method to help you calculate the amount of candy you need to purchase; you can calculate the volume of candy needed to fill each container, as we did previously, or you can allocate a certain amount of candy for each of your guests. Through experience we have discovered that using both of these methods, produces the best results.

Allocating between 150g to 200g of candy per guest is quite reasonable. If you are expecting 100 guests, multiply that number by 200 (grams). This means that you would need a total of approximately 20 kilograms (1000 grams = 1 kilogram) of candy. Now compare this figure with the total weight of candy that you need to fill all of your jars, which you have just previously calculated.

Does your total jar capacity closely match the amount of candy you need to satisfy your guests?

If so, great job you're on the right track.

Is your total jar capacity much greater than the amount of candy calculated per guest? This means that your jars are either too big, or that you are using too many. Replace some of your larger jars with smaller ones, or eliminate a few containers. Otherwise, you will end up with too much candy at the end of the event.

Is your total jar capacity much less than the amount of candy calculated per guest?

This means that your jars are either too small, or you don’t have enough of them compared to the number of guests. Try adding a few containers, or replacing some of your smaller jars with larger ones.

Be analytical, the results of both calculations don't have to match perfectly. These figures are just a baseline to help you determine the ideal measurements of your sweet table!
